The Rubens House was purchased by the artist in 1610 and transformed into an imposing residence and spacious studio. Rubens lived and worked here until his death in 1640. After the artist's death, the house remained in his family's possession until 1660, when it was sold. In the 19th century, the municipality of Antwerp bought the property and began its restoration. The house was opened to the public as a museum in 1946. Between 2017 and 2019, the museum underwent extensive renovation to restore its original appearance from Rubens' time.
