Plaza Dorrego is the oldest public space in the San Telmo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The best time to visit is on Sunday when the famous antique fair takes place. On weekends, the square becomes very crowded, so come early to avoid the crowds. Be careful with your personal belongings, as the area can be attractive to pickpockets. History

Plaza Dorrego has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. Initially, the area was used as a potato market, then as a parking place for carts. In 1830, the square was officially named after Manuel Dorrego, an Argentine politician and military officer. In the 19th century, San Telmo became the aristocratic neighborhood of the city, and Plaza Dorrego transformed into an important social center. After the yellow fever epidemic of 1871, many wealthy residents moved north, and the area entered a period of decline. However, in the 1970s, Plaza Dorrego experienced a cultural renaissance, becoming the center of the heritage conservation movement in San Telmo. The Sunday market, initiated in 1970, played a crucial role in revitalizing the square and the entire neighborhood.
