MAS Museum was inaugurated in May 2011, being the result of an ambitious project to revitalize Antwerp's port area. The museum concept was developed in the 2000s, with the aim of combining the collections of several smaller city museums into a single impressive institution. The building design was entrusted to the Neutelings Riedijk architecture firm from Rotterdam, which created an iconic structure inspired by traditional port warehouses. Construction began in 2006 and lasted five years. Since its opening, MAS has quickly become a major cultural landmark of Antwerp, attracting millions of visitors and significantly contributing to the urban regeneration of the port area.
