Jardín Japonés was created as a gesture of friendship between Argentina and Japan, being inaugurated in 1967 on the occasion of the visit of Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko to Argentina. The garden was designed by Japanese landscape architect Yasuo Inomata and built with the support of the Japanese community in Buenos Aires. Over the years, the garden has undergone several renovations and improvements, the most significant being in 1979 when the Tea House was added. In 1991, a cultural center was built to host exhibitions and events related to Japanese culture. The garden has become an important symbol of diplomatic relations between Argentina and Japan, as well as a landmark for the Japanese community in Buenos Aires.
