The Clock Tower is located in the center of Tirana, in Skanderbeg Square. It is easily accessible on foot from most central areas of the city. If you're coming by public transport, you can take buses that stop at Skanderbeg Square. The nearest bus stop is "Sheshi Skënderbej". For those coming by car, there are public parking lots nearby, but spaces are limited in the central area.

Good To Know

The Clock Tower is open to the public Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Access to the tower is via stairs, so it is not recommended for people with reduced mobility. For a spectacular panorama of the city, the best time to visit is around noon. On weekends, the tower can only be admired from the outside. Comfortable footwear is recommended for climbing the stairs.

History

The Clock Tower of Tirana was built in 1822 at the initiative of Haxhi Et'hem Bey, a local Ottoman nobleman. Initially, the tower was 30 meters tall and equipped with a mechanical clock from Venice. In 1928, the tower was raised to 35 meters to improve the clock's visibility. During World War II, the original clock was destroyed and replaced in 1946 with a German clock. In 1970, an electric clock was installed, which still functions today. The tower has undergone several renovations over time, the most recent being in 2010, which restored its original splendor.
