Good To Know

The visiting hours are daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with the last entry at 6:00 PM. We recommend booking tickets online in advance to avoid queues. Clothing should be modest, as a sign of respect. History

The memorial complex was conceived following an international design competition in 2003. Construction began in 2006, and the memorial was opened to the public on September 11, 2011, ten years after the attacks. The museum was completed and opened in May 2014. The project was the result of joint efforts by victims' families, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, and city officials. The winning design, titled "Reflecting Absence," was created by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker. During construction, remains of the original World Trade Center structures were discovered and incorporated into the museum, including the "Last Column" - the final structural element removed from Ground Zero. The museum also houses unidentified remains of the victims, honoring the memory of those lost.
